Grok AI: An Artificial Intelligence Tool

Although artificial intelligence has become a buzzword recently, many new tools and apps that use it are emerging and attracting users.

Billionaire Elon Musk’s company X’s feature ‘Grok’ is gaining popularity all over the world, including Pakistan, and many users are seen asking it various questions.

This chatbot seems to respond not only in English, but also in Urdu and even Punjabi and cites evidence such as facts, research, and media reports in its responses.

Let’s find out from Grok itself what it is.

Question: What is Grok and how is it answering users’ questions?

Answer: Grok is an artificial intelligence (AI) developed by a company called XAI. It is designed to answer users’ questions, and its goal is to provide useful and truthful answers. Grok is specifically designed to improve human scientific discovery and expand our understanding of the universe.

It answers users’ questions in several ways: It is trained on a huge amount of data, which gives it the ability to provide information on a wide range of topics.

If needed, it can search for more information on the web and social media, such as X.

It understands questions and presents their answers in clear and simple language so that it is easy for users to understand.

For example, if you ask Grok a question, it analyzes your question, collects relevant information, and then presents it to you. This all happens very quickly so you can get a quick and accurate answer.

How Accurate are Grok's Answers?

Be it a big personality or a common man, Grok AI seems to answer almost everyone. However, the style and language in which Grok answers are quite unconventional and have surprised many people.

An interesting thing is that apart from English, it also speaks in Urdu and Urdu written in Roman i.e. English alphabet.

Sometimes its answers are absolutely correct, but sometimes there are mistakes in them, and its answers also include sarcasm and humor.

Many internet users in Pakistan are asking various kinds of questions. When a user asked about Pakistani politics who has been the best Prime Minister in Pakistan, Grok replied that ‘If we look at Pakistan’s economy, Nawaz Sharif should have been the best as Prime Minister.’

When this answer was criticized, Grok adopted an unconventional style and wrote ‘Ha ha, it seems that by speaking better to Nawaz Sharif (I) stirred up a controversy...’

Grok AI is a chatbot. If you want to know the answer to a question on X, you can tag Grok or visit Grok’s website.

It responds in a similar way to ChatGPT or other AI chatbots.

Chatbots respond like parrots and even mimic humans. Just as parrots repeat words without understanding the full context, chatbots do the same thing with better understanding.

When we asked Grok how accurate its answers are, it said that it “generally tries to give accurate and reliable answers. However, its accuracy is not always 100% and, in some cases, there may be errors or incomplete information.”

Pakistani users have also left no stone unturned in testing Grok’s information. One question asked Grok about the ‘difference between Gandhi and Imran Khan’, while some even questioned Grok’s credibility.

Grok AI says that the accuracy of its answers “depends on several factors such as the nature of the question, the quantity and quality of information available, and the complexity of the topic.” Its answers depend on these factors.

Grok can also do ‘Light Flirting’

Chatbots are a type of artificial intelligence, also known as a large language model (LLM), and are trained on a large amount of data.

Grok AI’s chatbot was launched in November 2023. But where did it come from?

American science fiction author Robert A. Heinlein first used the term grok in his 1961 novel ‘Stranger in a Strange Land’.

The novel used the concept of ‘grokking’, meaning having deep empathy for others.

Elon Musk said in an interview that the Grok model was inspired by Douglas Adams’ science fiction novel ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’.

Elon Musk said that ‘Grok likes sarcasm and responds with light humor. Grok also answers questions that other AI systems shy away from.

One reason for its popularity is that you don't have to go anywhere to ask it a question, but you can tag it on X, and it will give you an answer that everyone can see.

Many of its answers also become the subject of discussion, such as the question asked by users who is the 'most famous' or 'most corrupt' politician in Pakistan.

Grok himself says that this AI character featured in the famous movie Iron Man is inspired by Jarvis. In response to one of our questions, Grok said that 'if the topic is not serious or the user's tone is informal, he can add light teasing or humor to the answer.

For example, if you ask, 'What is the meaning of life?' So instead of giving a serious and philosophical answer, he can say something like, ‘Good food and fast internet.’

It is also an interesting aspect that if an objection is raised to Grok’s answer, it also apologizes.

In response to one of our questions, Grok said that ‘Grok’s habit of apologizing in Grok’s answers is part of its programming and design because it is designed to be polite and empathetic towards users.’

How are Grok’s Responses Different from other Chatbots?

According to the Global AI Vibrancy Ranking 2023 prepared by Stanford University, India is ranked fourth in terms of artificial intelligence, while the US, China, and the UK are the top three countries.

Currently, only 36 countries have been ranked in this, taking into account various factors. Meanwhile, according to a survey conducted by the AI Index Report 2024, 76% of Pakistanis said that they are aware of ChatGPT, but only 28% of Pakistanis said that they use it regularly. 51% of Pakistanis have expressed concern that AI may affect their jobs.

Apart from Grok, there are many chatbots such as ChatGPT, DeepSec, Bard, MetaAI, and Gemini, etc. Other artificial intelligence tools such as Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant are also available, which act as voice assistants. Technically, AI chatbots are not much more advanced or intelligent than in the past.

Let's try to find out what is the difference in the answers of these chatbots. We asked three chatbots the same question, 'Tell me about Aurangzeb in one sentence?' Here are the answers from ChatGPT, Guruk, and Gemini:

ChatGPT: Aurangzeb was a Mughal emperor. He ruled the Indian subcontinent between 1658 and 1707 and was known for his religious fanaticism.

GurukAI: Aurangzeb was the sixth Mughal emperor. He was a hardline Islamic ruler who ruled between 1658 and 1707. He expanded his empire but was also known for his religious intolerance.

Gemini: Aurangzeb is also known as Alamgir. He was the sixth Mughal emperor to rule India. He ruled between 1658 and 1707 and brought his empire to its peak.

AI-Related Challenges

The IMF has warned that artificial intelligence will affect 40% of jobs.

Some experts have also written in their articles that jobs will be lost due to AI, but skilled people will also get new jobs related to AI.

AI has also increased the risk of fake news. It was used by political parties during the assembly elections in Delhi.

There are many pictures of famous people on social media that look very real but are actually created using AI.

Although AI has created challenges, various AI platforms and tools are gaining acceptance among people and are being innovated.
